We finally had snow here! It arrived late Friday night, just a gentle dusting, enough to whisper the world soft and silent. On Saturday morning, I thought wandering around the snowy garden barefoot would be a nice way to celebrate Imbolc. I wandered for about a minute and then thought better of it, but it was a strange and lovely experience. Snow is beautiful when you have the option to experience it from somewhere warm.
On a more serious note, it’s absolutely freezing here at the moment and there are a lot of people sleeping rough. It was -7 C (that’s -19 F for my friends in the USA) and I honestly can’t even imagine what it would be like to sleep outside in these temperatures for even an hour, never mind a whole night, or longer. This is hypothermia, frostbite and death weather.
If you can donate to charities that support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, please do. Streetwork is an amazing organisation that helps people in the city where I live, but there are charities doing essential work in pretty much every city. If you don’t know of any near you, it takes literally a few seconds to hit up the Google machine and find an organisation in your area who are saving lives right now. So please do it.

Snow is beautiful to look at but so terrible cold. I don’t like sound of it when walking on it. But, helping those who are in need is very important.

We tried to introduce our cat to snow and I think he shares your opinion on it 🙂
